Solrock in competitive play
Over the generations Solrocks seen a steady decline. It started out in UU when it was introduced in Ruby and Sapphire where it ran a number of roles, from Running a defensive reflect set, able to take hits. A choice banded set, able to hit fairly hard but its main job, was running a baton pass to transfer clam minds and substitute. In Diamond and Pearl it would run baton pass with rock polish and could make very good use of trick room.
Now its settled into the newest tier to Smogon, PU. Its almost unique typing and high defences means its a good check to some of the physical threats in the tier. Sadly it has 4 big weaknesses with three being mainly special. It has access to Will-o-wisp and moonlight however which gives it plenty of defensive potential.
Example Set
Wall
Item: Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
Nature: Impish
Evs: 252HP/4 Atk/252 Def
Stealth Rock
Morning Sun
Will-o-wisp
Rock slide
Tis generation, there is very little Solrock can do, however it makes a great wall in the PU tier. Having access to Stealth Rock to help chip away your opponents team. Will-o-wisp helps Solrock take hits on the physical side and moonlight gives it reliable sustain. It's unlikely to out speed anything but rock slide is stabe.
