About SableyeSableye lead quiet lives deep inside caverns. Sableye digs the ground with sharpened claws to find rocks that it eats. Substances in the eaten rocks crystallize and rise up to the Pokémon's body surface. Its diet of gems has transformed its eyes into gemstones. They are feared, however, because these Pokémon are thought to steal the spirits of people when their eyes burn with a sinister glow in the darkness.

Sableye in Compeitive BattlingFor the new year we start off with one of the Pokemon that got a new mega evolution. 6th gen has been good and bad for Sableye. As mentioned it has been good cause it received a mega evolution with the release of ORAS however Sableye used to be one of the few Pokemon in the game to have no weakness until the new Fairy type came along. Still one weakness isn't bad especially since it is immune to psychic, normal, and fighting moves.
As far as actual battle goes Sableye can be used two different ways depending on how you want to play him. You can take advantage of his Hidden ability prankster to spread status throughout the opponent's team as well as annoy your opponent by using priority recover. Downside is sableye won't be very strong offensively and will still take hits rather hard due to its poor defenses. For thoses of you that like playing defensivley check out its mega evolution.
Example SetsMega MindSableye
Item: Sableite
Ability: Prankster
Nature: Bold
EVs: 252 HP, 252 Def, 4 Sp.atk
Calm Mind
Recover
Dark Pulse/Shadow Ball
Will-o-wisp/Dark Pulse/Shadow Ball
Once Mega evovled Sableye will have a huge amount of defensive power. Invest your evs into defense because you can boost your sp.def using calm mind. Recover is there to ... well ... recover your hp. You can choose Dark Pulse or Shadow Ball for your attacking move. You won't be able to hit normal types at all if you choose shadow ball but fairy, fighting, and dark types will resist you if you choose dark pulse. Will-o-wisp helps increase your defense even further by decreasing the opponents attack stat through burn. However if you really want you can replace it with the attack you didn't choose in slot 3 to ensure full coverage since with magic bounce as your ability when you are mega may reflect a status at the opponent before you are able to burn them.
Prank GemSableye
Item: Leftovers
Ability: Prankster
Nature: Calm/Careful
EVs: 252 HP, 252 Sp.Def, 4 Def
Taunt
Will-o-Wisp
Recover
Foul Play/Knock Off/Night Shade
Taunt keeps the opponent form setting up as well as protecting you from being taunted. Will-o-Wisp ruins physical attackers. Which is the reason you should invest your Evs in sp.def. Recover keeps you healthy through out the game. Foul Play may do more damage depending on what pokemon you're facing however Knock off lets you remove all of your oppnent's hold items. Night Shade for consistent damage but remember you won't hit normal types.
Tricky GhostSableye
Item: Lagging Tail
Ability: Prankster
Nature: Calm/Careful
EVs: 252 HP, 252 Sp.Def, 4 Def
Trick
Will-o-Wisp
Recover
Foul Play/Knock Off/Night Shade/Taunt
Some of my favorite sets are trick sets and Sableye does it well. Prankster will make trick go first despite you holding the lagging tail. So the pokemon you give lagging tail to will always go last plus they lose their held item. Plus you can continue to ruin the opponents team by continuing to swap around their items. For example you could take the from your opponenet's scizor and give it to their milotic. Everything else is the same as the set before. Though you might want to reconsider knock off as it doesn't pair too well with trick.
